 Balochistan: Veteran journalist Siddique Baloch passes away

KARACHI: The renowned Baloch journalist and author Siddique Baloch aka Lala Siddique lost a battle with cancer and passed away in private hospital in Karachi on Monday night.

Siddique Baloch born on February 10, 1940, Chakiwara area of Karachi was the editor and founder of two Balochistan based Urdu language newspaper ‘Daily Azadi Quetta’ and ‘Daily Balochistan Express’ which prints English news.

He started his journalism career with The Dawn in the 1960s and worked with newspaper for almost 29 years.

The Bhutto’s regime put Siddique Baloch behind bars in 1973 – 1977 along with veteran Baloch and Pashtun leaders including Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, Sardar Attaullah Mengal, Khan Abdul Wali Khan and others under Hyderabad conspiracy case.

He served as vice president for Karachi Press Club and president of the Balochistan Council for Newspaper Editors for two terms.
