Balochistan: The government is not providing safety kits to the doctors: YDA

QUETTA: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) in Balochistan has expressed concerns after two doctors tested positive for coronavirus in the line of duty at Sheikh Zayed Hospital’s isolation ward in Quetta.

The spokesman of YDA Rahim Khan Babar said in a statement on Sunday that the government has not provided personal protective equipment, disposable gloves and masks to health staff and doctors even after two of the doctors have already contracted the virus.

The YDA said the serving Secretary and Special Secretary Health have failed to deal with the current situation and provide basic safety kits to Balochistan’s hospitals. They urged the Chief Minister Balochistan to take serious notice of the situation and visits the hospital’s isolation ward where the doctors are fighting to save lives of others by risking their own lives.

The YDA spokesman also demanded that the doctors who tested positive for coronavirus should be quarantined at their homes instead of government hospitals.

The YDA has earlier also warned that more than 15,00 doctors and paramedics were performing their duties without masks and other basic equipment.

Meanwhile, one person passed away on 29 March at GDA hospital in Gwadar district Balochistan, of suspected coronavirus.

Even though the patient had the initial symptoms of the deadly virus but the blood test results were yet to come.
