By Archen Baloch The Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, Nasrulllah Baloch complained that they have been given only two hours to meet the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappeared to hear their view on involuntary disappearances in Balochistan which is insufficient to present all cases.
He further said that the head of Pakistani Judicial Committee retired Justice Javed Iqbal was misleading the UN team and was repeating the rhetoric of Pakistani intelligence agencies by decreasing the number of enforced-disappeared Baloch activists who are currently being detained by Pakistan security intelligence. He also strongly criticized the Pakistan Defense Council for their announcement to hold a long march against the UN team and added that “The March announcement of Dafae Pakistan Council against United Nations’ visit to Balochistan is a ploy of secret agencies.”
In a joint press conference Vice Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, Qadeer Baloch, at Judicial Street, the leader of VBMP said that they had already expressed their reservation about the appointment of Retired Justice Javed Iqbal as the head of Judicial Committee which was constituted to find the enforced-disappeared Baloch persons. “At the behest of secret agencies of Pakistan, Javed Iqbal has as usual, presented United Nations Working Group with misleading figures about the number of Disappeared persons in Balochistan.”
“His misleading statement that the number of Missing Persons is 26 is the true reflection of his morbid interest of seeking the empathy of secret agencies to confirm his employment”, Nasruallah Baloch added.
Contradicting Mr Javed Iqbal’s statement the Chairman of VBMP said that while Justice Iqbal was hearing the cases of missing persons, 194 cases of enforced disappearances of Baloch youth were presented before him, adding that Justice Iqbal was speaking the language of country’s intelligence agencies “which were involved in disappearances and killings of Baloch youth”.
Referring to the statement of Pakistan Defense Council he said his Organisation had already expressed its concern that the UN team will either not be allowed to visit Balochistan or they will be misled. “Today the Defa-e-Pakistan Council (Pakistan Defense Council) issued a statement saying that it would start a long march against UN working group’s arrival to Balochistan.”
He said it was the same group, Pakistan Defense Council, who previously announced take out a long march to stop NATO Supply line but when the Pakistan military approved the supplies, the council also canceled their long march protest.
Hence it is obvious that the PDC has announced its long march against UN working group’s arrival in Balochistan at the behest Pakistan military and intelligence agencies. The VBMP leader said, “We have never witnessed any protests from the DPC platform for the release of Baloch missing persons. Are they not Muslims? He went on to say, we condemn their coercive tactics in strongest possible terms.”
He said the VBMP appreciates the step by the UN to investigate the cases of Baloch enforced disappeared persons and expressed optimism over the working group’s future investigations.
He said, “The UN mission is arriving in Quetta on Sept 14th and on Sept 15th we’re programmed to meet the mission but we have been given only two hour present the cases of enforced-disappearances which extremely insufficient to place all the facts before the UN mission. There are a number of victims’ families who cannot make it to Quetta.”
He appealed the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntarily Disappeared to visit inner and far flung region of Balochistan where military operations and enforced abduction of Baloch activists were continuing unabated.
He said to know the actual figures of enforced disappeared Baloch and those who have been extra-judicially targeted killed or kill in cold blood in custody by Pakistani security forces UN team must make direct contacts with families of victims otherwise the visit will be futile and Baloch families in despair will be extremely disappointed.
