Two people killed and six arrested during a crackdown against Baloch IDPs

The government of Punjab has started crackdowns against internally displaced Baloch who are currently living on Punjab-Balochistan border. The IDPs left Dera Bugti after military operations began there in 2005 and continues to this day.

According to details the Pakistani security forces raided the makeshifts of Bugti Baloch IDPs in Giyandari area of Balochistan close to Rajanpur area of Punjab province of Pakistan. Two men namely Mawali Bugti S/O Qaisar Bugti and Ghanra Bugti S/O Kharghi Bugti were reportedly killed and several people including women and children were wounded during the violent crackdown by Punjab security agencies. The forces have also arrested six men in injured condition and shifted them to an undisclosed location.

Strongly condemning the attack the central spokesperson of the BRP, Sher Mohammad Bugti, said that the government of PML-N in Punjab on one hand deceptively cries for the situation of Balochistan but on the other hand their governemnt is carrying out a deadly military operation against Baloch IDPs from Dera Bugti, Kohistan Marri and other parts of Balochistan who were forced to abdondon their native villages due to indiscriminate bombardment by Pakistan Air Force from 2004 ownwards.
It is pertinant to mention here that on 16 July the Pakistan’s security forces had decided to carry out operations against ‘criminals’ on Punjab-Balochistan border and in several areas of Balochistan. The Chief Minister of Balochistan had also given the clearance for the operaitons.

Refuting the governemnt claims about the presence of ‘criminals’ on bordering areas Mr Bugti said “These people [Baloch IDPs] can hardly efford their two times daily meal, how can they posses weapons to induldge in crimianl activities. All these accusations are nothing but to justify the genocide of innocent Baloch people. These acts expose the anti-Baloch behavour Punjab government that has always been interested in Baloch land and resources and considered the Baloch people a hudle in the way of their exploitation of Balochistan natural wealth.”

The BRP spokesperson appealed to the United Nation’s institutions for refugees and displaced people to take note of military operation against forced displaced Baloch people, currently living in appalling conditions near Punjab border. He also requested the UN refugees organizations to provide security and aid to the Baloch IDPs in Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab and those Baloch refugees who migrated to Afghanistan fearing their lives and now live in misrable conditions in there.
