4634 Afghan troops lost their lives in battle so far this year
KABUL, Nov 06 (NNI): At least 4,634 members of the Afghan national security forces (ANSF) have lost their lives in fight against the terrorism so far this year.
The second-ranking US commander in Afghanistan Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson has expressed concerns regarding the rise and has said the level of casualties cannot be sustained in a successful fight against the Taliban.
Speaking to reporters from his headquarters in through video at the Pentagon, Gen. Anderson said the number of Afghans killed in battle rose from 4,350 last year to 4,634 so far this year, the Associated Press reported.
The increase in Afghan troops casualties remains persistent despite there have been reduction in Taliban militants attacks, while the Afghan forces attacks have increased on Taliban fighters this year.
Taliban militants carried out at least 24,000 attacks across the country last year but the number has decreased to 18,000 attacks this year.
In the meantime, Gen. Anderson has insisted that Afghans must improve the quality of medical care for wounded troops, starting at the point of injury. NNI
