Balochistan: VBMP demands formation of a judicial commission to investigate enforced disappearances
QUETTA: The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) has once again rejected the government’s Commission on Missing Persons and urged the Supreme Court to establish a judicial commission headed by serving judges for safe and early recovery of enforced-disappeared persons in Balochistan.
The Chairman of VBMP Mr Nasrullah Baloch made these demands during a Press Conference at Quetta Press Club on Thursday. Mr Baloch has strongly rejected the statement of the head of the government commission retired judge Mr Justice Javed Iqbal in which he has alleged that the organisation (VBMP) has not cooperated with the commission.
He said, “The VBMP has presented evidence about several disappeared person cases to the government commission but the commission instead of taking action against responsible officials has removed the cases disappeared persons from Balochistan.”
He said, “On 3rd October, 2009 security forces abducted several students from Balochistan University. Students who were later released – they have recorded their statements before the commission but the commission did not take action against the officials named in the statements.”
Nasrullah Baloch said that tortured dead bodies of many abducted Baloch were found during the period when commission was hearing case of abducted people in Balochistan. “The government commission even rejected their [whose bodies were found] cases.”
He said, “We had already rejected the government commission because of its disappointing performance.”
The Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons has appealed to the Supreme Court to dissolve the government commission and establish a judicial commission comprising of serving judges of the Supreme Court, representatives of United Nations and other Human Rights Organisations.
