FREEDOM
By Aaliyah Shah
Freedom is one of the fundamental rights of every creation of God. Freedom means the power or right to act, speak or think as one wants. The condition of doing something, saying, thinking or whatever you want without being controlled is called freedom.
Freedom is the first priority of the human being because every person is born free when they open their eyes in this world. Freedoms before the contemporary civilisation meant that people were free from any rules of how to live, there was no culture prohibition and human didn’t have any system of making clothes to cover themselves.
Freedom is not just a single word, it is a concept, it is a thought that makes a slave realise that he/she needs freedom and liberty. There are several forms of freedom including the freedom of movement which requires liberty of movement and right to choose your residence, travel abroad, to emigrate and to repatriate. “In philosophy and religion, it is associated with having free will and being without undue or unjust constraints, or enslavement, and is an idea closely related to the concept of liberty.”
There are some major examples of freedom according to a great personality an example of freedom is a “bird being let out of a cage, or a woman who regains her independence after a controlling marriage is over.” When we see around us there is no freedom at all. Especially the most important issue is human freedom!
In the 21st century, it seems to be dead. Humans are also being imprisoned. In the era where human beings should have been at liberty, their voices are being silenced. Human rights are the most fundamental and important of rights such as the right to life, the right to the pursuit of happiness, the right to live your life free of discrimination, the right to be free from torture, the right to be free from slavery and the right to freedom of speech.
Besides these, there are still more than thousands of examples of freedom. The people of Balochistan are raising their voice to regain their freedom from foreign occupation. But, the occupiers of Balochistan Pakistan and Iran country belongs to the dead, there is with no value for life, children also suffer in their childhood. Young people spend most of their youth in prisons in these countries.
Apart from Baloch, there are several other oppressed and occupied nations who are also raising their voice for freedom. The Kurds have also been fighting for their freedom and continue to fight till date. The Kurd and Baloch and other nations who are fighting for their rights, they are victims of state terrorism by UN member states that bound themselves by UN charters. It is the Kurds that help the US and allied forces to defeat and almost root out the ISIS. However, today the US has betrayed the Kurds and has given Turkey the green signal to take action against the Kurdish pro-freedom organisations. Such acts of betrayal, however, has little effect on the determination of the Kurds as they are still fighting bravely.
In 1945 and 1948 the United Nations (UN) was established to help protect the sovereignty of nations and support them in time of need. “The foundations of this body of law are the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1945 and 1948, respectively. Since then, the United Nations has gradually expanded human rights law to encompass specific standards for women, children, and persons with disabilities, minorities and other vulnerable groups, who now possess rights that protect them from discrimination that had long been common in many societies.”
Unfortunately, the conditions of the world today show that every nation is an orphan because they suffer tyranny and brutality and the UN seem to turn a blind eye to such violations of nations’ basic right to life and liberty. The question, however, arises, if the UN – a body who is supposed to protect the sovereignty of nations – has failed to keep its promises then who will listen to the occupied and oppressed nations’ cries for freedom justice, democracy.
The helplessness of the UN leads one into believing that there is no value for life and freedom is meaningless in the eyes of the UN. Hence, nobody has the right to ask for their basic rights.
