Balochistan: Baloch prisoner executed in Zahedan prison, another commits suicide
DOZZAAP (Zahedan) A Baloch inmate has been executed in Central Jail Zahedan, the capital city of Iranian Occupied Balochistan, on June 17 while another committed suicide in the same prison.
According to details, the Iranian forces have executed a 27-year-old Baloch prisoner named Omied Hashumzai, accused of murder, in Zahedan.
He was previously sentenced to death by an Iranian ‘kangaroo court’ and held in block 3 of Zahedan central jail.
He was transferred to solidarity confinement on 15 June, 2020 for execution purpose.
However, the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported that on June 17 his execution was carried out.
In terms of population, Iran has the highest number of executions in the world and most victims belong to Baluchistan, Kurdistan and Al-Ahwaz.
On the other hand, another inmate had committed suicide in the same prison on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
He has been named as 23-year-old Younis Sarhadi, a prisoner in block 6 of Zahedan Jail.
Sources reported that the inmate overdosed himself with pills and due to lack of immediate medical attention, he died in his cell.
Sarhadi was arrested two months ago and sent to prison over allegation of an armed robbery.
There was no immediate reaction from the prison officials about reasons for the prisoner’s suicide.
However, previously many prisoners committed suicide in Iran’s prisons especially in Balochistan due to lack of basic facilities, appalling conditions under which they are kept and inappropriate behaviour of the Iranian officials.
