Balochistan University harassment scandal: Two officials fired, action recommended against former VC
QUETTA: The University of Balochistan syndicate confirmed that the allegations of making videos with hidden cameras at the University of Balochistan have been proved in the light of the recommendations of the FIA report.
The syndicate of the University of Balochistan has demanded from the Governor of suspension of two-year increments of two workers and judicial action against the main character former Vice-Chancellor the varsity and stripping them of their awards and titles.
These four employees include the former registrar of the varsity, according to an FIA report, had installed 12 hidden cameras to film students.
According to the details, the 88th syndicate meeting of the University of Balochistan was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr Shafiqul Rehman in which Justice Mohammad Hashim Kakar, Advisor to the Chief Minister Bushra Rind, Roshan Khurshid Barocha, Dr Saud Taj, Mohammad Ayub Baloch, Dr Kaleemullah Barich, Prof. Baqi Jattak, Dr Farid Achakzai and other members were present.
The syndicated sacked that University’s Chief Security Officer Mohammad Naeem and Security Guard Saifullah for allegedly making videos with hidden cameras and recommended stopping the increment of two years for former registrar Tariq Jogezai and former transport officer Sharif Shahwani.
The syndicate also through a resolution demanded that a judicial inquiry be held against former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Javed Iqbal and his awards and titles be withdrawn.
It should be noted that the harassment case is pending in the Balochistan High Court.
In the June 30 hearing, the apex court had directed the university administration to hold a syndicate meeting and take action on the FIA report.
Legal experts say that the syndicate is not authorized to take action against former vice-chancellor, Dr. Javed Iqbal, based on which the syndicate demanded from the governor of Balochistan to take action against the former VC.
It has been alleged that the security guards put the videos in a USB from the computer of the surveillance room of the university and delivered it to the former Vice-Chancellor, Dr Javed Iqbal.
It may be recalled that after the harassment scandal came to light, student organizations in Balochistan strongly protested and demanded a transparent investigation into the matter.
The implementation of the syndicate recommendations is yet to be seen and whether action will be taken against the main character Vice-Chancellor Dr. Javed Iqbal.
