Balochistan: Unabated Protests Against Enforced Disappearances Continue
Baloch student abducted in Islamabad as PM appears before court
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani security agencies used an ambulance with a number plate to abduct a Baloch student from Islamabad on Wednesday 28 February 2024.
According to details, the Pakistani secret agencies have abducted Imtiaz Alam, a Baloch student, from a hostel in Islamabad around 3 pm on Wednesday.
The video of his abduction has been posted on social media by Human rights activists, fellow students and journalists.
A friend of the Baloch student can be heard in the video saying, ‘You can see, they are taking our friend in this ambulance.’
Imtiaz is a resident of the Naal area of Khuzdar Balochistan and has graduated from ARID Agriculture University Rawalpindi. He is currently pursuing his MPhil from the National Institute of Health Islamabad.
It should be noted that the Baloch student was abducted on the same day when the caretaker PM of Pakistan finally appeared before the Islamabad High Court for a hearing regarding the case of enforced disappearances of Baloch students. The hearing was presided over by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.
The PM failed to appear in the previous two hearings despite being summoned by IHC.
Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and Interior Minister Gohar Ijaz appeared before the court and clarified the issue of the enforced disappearance of students from Balochistan.
The PM in his ‘speech’ told the court that the government is facing an armed struggle in Balochistan, asserting that the armed individuals are fighting to “create a new state”.
In this regard, Advocate Iman Mazari, the lawyer of the Baloch students, said that although the Caretaker Prime Minister has appeared before the court, he should have shown seriousness on this sensitive issue instead he gave a speech and tried to cover up the 70-year-old coercive policies of the state.
