Free Balochistan Movement Announces Protests on 28 May

London: The Free Balochistan Movement (FBM) announced its plans to organize protests in various countries on May 28th, condemning Pakistan’s nuclear weapons testing on Baloch land.

Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in the Chaghai area of Balochistan on May 28, 1998, an action labelled by FBM as a continuation of the ‘Baloch Genocide’ by Pakistan.

The FBM stated that Pakistan has historically treated Balochistan as a colony, perpetuating the Baloch national genocide to serve its military and economic interests.

While Pakistan celebrated the day of its nuclear tests as ‘Yum-e-Takbeer’ or a great day, the Baloch community refers to it as ‘Yum-e-Aasrokh’ (Day of Mourning) due to the numerous environmental and health problems that have plagued Balochistan since. These issues include famine, loss of property, and adverse effects on human and livestock health.

Contrary to Pakistan’s claims that the tests were conducted on barren land, subsequent research and reports have revealed that they took place in the Chehtar village area, a populated civilian settlement.

FBM announced plans to stage protest demonstrations and awareness campaigns on May 28th in Balochistan and various countries worldwide, including Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States of America, and Finland.

During these events, FBM activists aim to raise awareness about the dangers posed by Pakistan’s nuclear program to both the Baloch people and global security.

The statement emphasised the international community’s responsibility to support the Baloch nation politically and morally, holding the Pakistani state accountable for its oppression and inhumane treatment of the Baloch people.

Additionally, it highlighted the broader implications of Pakistan’s nuclear experiments, alleging that they not only endanger the lives of Baloch people but also disrupt environmental balance and facilitate the proliferation of nuclear weapons to other rogue states like Iran.

FBM termed Pakistan’s possession of such weapons as a violation of international political and military laws, posing a threat to global peace and order.
