Dr. Mahrang Arrives in Norway to Address Balochistan Human Rights Abuses

OSLO: Baloch human rights activist Dr. Mahrang confirmed via a tweet on X that she arrived in Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday to attend a “Major Conference” aimed at highlighting the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan.

Praising Norway, she wrote: “A country best known for its long-standing democratic traditions and the Nobel Peace Prize” she added that she will stay in Norway for a few days to attend a conference and speak about human rights abuses in Balochistan, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

Meanwhile, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (Baloch Solidarity Committee) issued a brief statement saying that Dr. Mahrang will attend a gathering hosted by PEN Norway on Friday. She will share with the participants how the fundamental rights of the Baloch people to peaceful assembly and freedom are being muzzled.

PEN Norway is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending freedom of expression and supporting writers at risk and writers in prison.

Although Dr. Mahrang did not name the “Major Conference,” the famous Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) coincides with her visit to Norway.

This year, the OFF will be held from June 3-5 under the theme of “Reclaim Democracy.”

So far, there is no confirmation whether she will participate in the OFF or if she is listed as one of the speakers.
