Balochistan: Unabated Protests Against Enforced Disappearances Continue
Makran Coastal Highway Blocked for Three Days, Dozens of Passengers Stranded
GWADAR, BALOCHISTAN — The Makran Coastal Highway has been blocked for the past three days, leaving dozens of passengers stranded and causing long lines of vehicles to form.
The blockade was part of an escalating protest led by the Pickup Owners’ Union in response to the alleged mistreatment and abuses by the Coast Guard. Protestors closed the highway at Nalent Zero Point after their ultimatum to authorities expired without any resolution.
The demonstrators expressed their frustration with the district administration and the Coast Guard, accusing them of ignoring the situation.
Among the stranded passengers were pilgrims, who had been stuck at the border for two days before walking to Gwadar city in search of assistance. They approached the house of the Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar, hoping to find a solution to their plight.
“The administration has abandoned us. We were left stranded for two days at the border, and now we’ve been stuck for three more days due to the closure of the Sarbandan Cross,” said one of the stranded passengers.
Protestors voiced their discontent, claiming that the administration had not taken their concerns seriously. “We have been protesting for three days, but the authorities have shown no willingness to listen. We were left with no choice but to block all major highways.”
The demonstrators vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met, placing responsibility for the ongoing disruption on the district administration. They warned that the sit-in would remain in place until action was taken, prolonging the crisis for travellers and residents alike.
The Local authorities have, so far, failed to defuse the situation while the protest has caused significant disruption to the movement of goods and people in the region.
