Protest Rally in Quetta Marks Seven Years Since Noor Alam Marri’s Enforced Disappearance
QUETTA, September 22, 2024 – A protest rally and demonstration were held in Quetta today to mark the seventh anniversary of Noor Alam Marri’s enforced disappearance by Pakistan forces.
Noor Alam son of Dilshad Mari, was forcibly disappeared seven years ago during a military operation at his home in Harnai. He has not been recovered to this day. His elderly mother still holds onto the hope of his return.
Organized by the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, the rally saw participation from political parties, student organizations, and families of other missing persons.
The demonstrators marched through the city, demanding justice for Marri and calling for the immediate recovery of all individuals abducted by Pakistani security forces under similar circumstances.
They urged authorities to put an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
Speaking at the protest, participants emphasised the ongoing anguish faced by families of the disappeared, highlighting the lack of action in addressing the growing crisis.
Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans, pressing the government to take concrete steps to ensure the safe return of those missing, including Noor Alam Marri.
The rally reflected a broader movement advocating for human rights, as forced disappearances continue to be a pressing issue in Balochistan.
