Balochistan: Unabated Protests Against Enforced Disappearances Continue
Baloch Prisoner Executed in Zahedan Central Prison
DOZZAAP (ZAHEDEAN): A Baloch prisoner, Amanullah Nohtani (Gomshadzehi), was executed today in Zahedan Central Prison after being sentenced to death for drug-related offences.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, the execution took place on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Mr. Nohtani, a 41-year-old married man from Zabul, was the father of five children. He had been arrested in 2019 and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Zabul.
In November 2023, Nohtani was transferred from Taqazi Prison in Zabul to Zahedan Central Prison to carry out his sentence.
His family visited him for the last time on Wednesday, September 25, just one day before his execution.
This incident raises ongoing concerns regarding the use of the death penalty in Iran. Notably, in the first six months of 2024, at least 34 Baloch citizens have been executed in Iranian prisons, including at least two women.
Among those executed, a minimum of 27 were sentenced for drug-related charges, while seven others faced execution for murder allegations.
Human rights organizations continue to call for accountability and a revaluation of Iran’s approach to capital punishment, particularly concerning oppressed nations like the Baloch.
