A Baloch political and social activist detained in Tehran
Zahedan, September 9, 2024 — In a recent development, six prisoners were executed at Zahedan Central Prison, in Iranian Occupied Balochistan, marking a grim moment for the region.
The executions were carried out on Monday, September 9, 2024, following the prisoners’ transfer to quarantine at the facility to implement their death sentences.
Four of the executed individuals have been identified as follows:
- Saeed Hussainzahi son of Taj Mohammad, 30, a married father of three from Zahedan
- Farzad Sanchooli son of Ghulam, 29, a married father of three from Zabol, residing in Zahedan
- Roudini (full name unspecified), from Zahedan
- Noor Mohammad Noorzaei son of Sayd Mohammad Baloch, from Nimroz province, Afghanistan
According to reports Saeed Hussainzahi was arrested in 2020 at his residence on Shahid Mazari Street in Zahedan. He was charged with drug-related offences and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.
Farzad Sanchooli, who was arrested four years ago in Zabol on similar charges, was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Zabol. He had been held at Zahedan Central Prison for the past two years. His family visited him for a final meeting on September 8, 2024, following communication from prison officials.
Noor Mohammad Noorzaei was apprehended in August 2022 at the Milak border crossing in Zabol. He faced drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Zabol before being transferred to Zahedan Central Prison in June 2023.
Details about the specific charges against the other Baloch prisoners, whose identities remain incomplete, were unavailable when this news report was filed.
The executions come amidst a troubling trend, with at least 34 Baloch citizens reported executed in Iranian prisons in the first half of 2024. This figure includes at least two women. Of those executed, 27 were charged with drug-related offences, and 7 were convicted of murder.
Meanwhile in Tehran, the Iranian forces have detained Subhan Dehvari, a prominent Baloch political and social activist.
According to unconfirmed reports, Dehvari was arrested at his workplace at the Warna Dana-e-Makran ‘Cultural and Social Organization’ on September 19, 2024.
Dehvari was in the process of being selected for the position of “Youth Affairs Advisor at the Ministry of Interior” at the time of his arrest.
The reasons for Dehvari’s detention and the specific charges against him remain unclear.
It is noteworthy that Subhan Dehvari was considered a strong candidate for the role of Youth Affairs Advisor due to his political and social activism and continuous meetings by political activists from Balochistan in Tehran.
