Free Balochistan Movement Engages UK Political Parties in Awareness Campaign
LONDON: The Free Balochistan Movement (FBM) has successfully concluded a month-long political awareness campaign aimed at raising the profile of Balochistan’s plight among major political parties in the United Kingdom.
The campaign commenced on August 30 in Edinburgh, coinciding with the annual conference of the Scottish National Party (SNP). FBM activists distributed informative leaflets detailing the human rights violations and ongoing struggles faced by the Baloch people under the occupations of Iran and Pakistan. They engaged SNP members, delegates, and Scottish Government officials, urging them to support a petition advocating for Balochistan’s independence.
Following Edinburgh, the campaign moved to Brighton on September 14, where activists lobbied members of the Liberal Democrats. They briefed notable figures, including former leaders Lord Sir Vince Cable and Tim Farron, about Balochistan’s historical context and its current national struggle. The Brighton phase wrapped up on September 17.
On September 22, FBM activists shifted their focus to Liverpool, engaging with Labour Party members, delegates, and MPs. As the ruling party, Labour was a significant focus, and activists briefed high-ranking officials, including the UK Attorney General and ministers from Foreign Affairs, on Balochistan’s national struggle. The Liverpool campaign lasted four days, reaching hundreds of individuals with information about the Baloch cause.
The campaign concluded in Birmingham from September 29 to October 2, targeting members of the Conservative Party, the official opposition. FBM activists briefed party members on the atrocities committed against the Baloch people and distributed a key leaflet titled Balochistan: A Country in Pieces, A Nation in Resistance, which provided an overview of Balochistan’s historical context and recent human rights violations.
The campaign was met with enthusiasm, as many activists from across political spectrums engaged with FBM members to learn more about the plight of Baloch people and the current situation in Balochistan. Representatives from all major parties expressed solidarity with the Baloch nation and pledged support for its independence movement.
The head of FBM’s Foreign Affairs Department stated, “We will continue our efforts to inform the international community about the Baloch national struggle for independence, and we strive to expose Iran and Pakistan’s state brutalities and atrocities against the Baloch nation at every forum and venue available to us.”
The Free Balochistan Movement’s initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to bring attention to human rights issues in Balochistan and garner support for its independence from oppressive regimes.
