Five Local IRGC Forces Killed in Armed Attack in Saravan
DOZZAAP (ZAHEDAN): At least five members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), all local recruits, were killed in an armed assault on an IRGC base in Saravan, in Iranian Occupied Balochistan.
The attack took place on Sunday evening, November 10, 2024, in the Chatakani watchtower area, located within the Sirkan region of Saravan County.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, the victims of the attack have been identified as Abdulrahman Balochzai, Wahid Balochzai, Bashir Sepahi, Shahbakhsh Balochzai, and Abdullah Balochzai.
These individuals were serving as part of the IRGC’s local forces when they were targeted by the gunmen.
The IRGC’s Quds Headquarters confirmed the incident, stating that following the attack, additional military units were immediately dispatched to the region to pursue the assailants. Despite their efforts, no arrests or additional details about the attackers have been provided at this time.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, though tensions have been high in the region due to Iran’s latest increase in military presence, Iranian state atrocities and human rights violations in the region.
The Baloch Activists Campaign, a rights organisation that advocates for the Baloch population, has been monitoring developments in the region closely and reported the fatalities soon after the assault. The campaign has been vocal about the ongoing repression faced by the Baloch people in Iranian Occupied Balochistan what Iran describes as its “Sistan and Baluchistan province.”
