Balochistan: Wave of Enforced Disappearances Sparks Alarm, 10 Individuals Abducted in Two Days
QUETTA: A series of Pakistani forces offensives lead to multiple enforced disappearances across in different regions of Balochistan.
The latest wave of abduction has arrested after Pakistan’s Apex Committee led of PM and Army chief gave approval of “comprehensive military offensives” in Balochistan.
The unwanted enforced disappearances has raised serious concerns among human rights organisations and families of the victims, who demand accountability and immediate release of their loved ones.
Five Abducted in Turbat
On November 28, Pakistani forces abducted five individuals from Turbat, Balochistan, during coordinated offensive raids. The victims have been identified as:
- Dr. Zaffar son of Mohammad Raheem (later released)
- Raheem Jan son of Dr. Zaffar
- Dr. Mohammad Kareem son of Bahram
- Mehrab son of Lal Baksh
- Abdost Baloch
The families of the abducted individuals have expressed deep concern over their safety and have called for their immediate and unconditional release.
Among the abductees Dr Zaffar was later released, the other are still in the custody of Pakistani forces.
Dera Bugti Raids Lead to Multiple Disappearances
In Dera Bugti’s Muhammad Colony, Pakistani Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) forces detained multiple individuals during late-night raids over the past week. Among those abducted are:
- 1. Pir Muhammad son of Pano Bugti (disappeared for the third time)
- 2. Ismail son of Lalu Bugti
- 3. Dangla son of Haji Moj Bugti
The CTD and intelligence agencies raided several homes, looting property and subjecting women and children to violence during the offensives.
Families of the abducted individuals remain in the dark about their whereabouts, fuelling growing outrage in the local community.
Barkhan Incident
In Barkhan, Pakistani forces whisked away Rashid Ahmed Khetran son of Master Gul Muhammad Jan from the Baghawag region, on November 27.
Rashid was reportedly taken into custody along with his vehicle while traveling from Dera Ghazi Khan to Barkhan. His family has since received no information about his location or condition.
Laborer Abducted in Kalat
In the Mungchar area of Kalat district, Jameel Nechari son of Amir Hamza, a daily wage laborer, was detained by Pakistani forces on the night of November 27.
He was forcibly taken from his home and transferred to an undisclosed location. His family has pleaded with authorities for his safe release.
Growing International Concern
The wave of disappearances has drawn condemnation from human rights groups. The International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (IVBMP) condemned the incident, appealing to the international community, including the United Nations to pressure the Pakistani government to end such human rights violations.
The IVBMP emphasised that these abductions are part of a broader pattern of state oppression in Balochistan, where enforced disappearances are used as a tool to suppress dissent.
The group has urged the international community to take immediate action, holding Pakistan accountable for its human rights violations.
Balochistan continues to face a dire human rights crisis, with families of the disappeared living in fear and uncertainty. Advocacy groups have reiterated the need for urgent global attention to ensure the safety and rights of Baloch citizens.
