Balochistan: Protest in Zahedan Over Detention of Haji Hameed Gamshadzaei

DOZZAAP (Zahedan): On the Friday, January 31, 2025, Baloch youth in Zahedan took to the streets to protest the continued detention of prominent Baloch leader Sardar Haji Hameed Gamshadzaei.

The demonstrators blocked several key streets in the city by setting fire to tyres, marking a significant escalation in protests against his unlawful detention.

The roadblocks followed a series of warnings from Baloch youth from various tribes across Balochistan, who had previously circulated voice messages on social media. In these messages, they warned that if Haji Hameed was not released, protests would move beyond the digital sphere and spread to cities and regions across Balochistan.

On the same day (Friday), an armed attack occurred in Zahedan when unknown gunmen targeted the police vehicle of Police Station 13 in the ShirAbad area. The attack appears to be part of the growing unrest in the region following Haji Hameed’s arrest.

As the protests enter a new phase, many young Baloch activists have expressed their determination to continue their actions until Haji Hameed is released.

Messages of solidarity and calls for further protests are circulating, with many preparing for additional demonstrations on Saturday.

The ongoing detention of Sardar Haji Hameed Gamshadzaei, a respected Baloch leader, has sparked widespread anger and frustration, with many viewing his arrest as part of a larger crackdown on Baloch political figures and activists in Iranian-occupied Balochistan.
