Balochistan: Family Appeals for Help After Brother’s Forced Disappearance

QUETTA: Saima Malang, a resident of Apsar Mould Rek, has appealed to civil society organisations and political parties for assistance after her brother, Waseem Malang, was forcibly taken from their home by Pakistani forces on Friday (January 31, 2025) night.

The abduction took place at around midnight when Waseem was asleep. According to Saima, eight vehicles filled with personnel, some dressed in black uniforms and others in plain clothes, arrived at their residence and carried out a violent raid.

Saima Malang and her female relatives held a press conference at the Turbat Press Club, where they described the traumatic events. “They not only took my brother, but also subjected women and children to violence,” Saima said. “They forcefully seized our mobile phones and other belongings, and my elderly father was mistreated during the raid. They threatened us to remain silent.”

Saima also revealed that the personnel questioned them about a person shown in a photograph, who was described as having long hair. The men spoke both in Urdu and Balochi, and locked the family inside the house, leaving her father and younger brother outside in the cold while threatening them not to intervene.

Waseem Malang, the sole breadwinner of the family, is described by Saima as having no involvement in any political activities. He worked as a driver, transporting goods across the border. “If he had been involved in any suspicious activity, how could he have been at home?” Saima questioned. “He had just returned from work, had eaten, and was preparing to sleep when they raided our house and took him away.”

In light of the forced disappearance, Saima Malang appealed to the All-Party Committee, Anjuman Tajran, and civil society organisations to raise their voices and help secure her brother’s safe return. “We need your support to bring Waseem Malang back home safely,” she said, calling for immediate action to locate and free her brother.

The family remains in distress, awaiting answers and hoping for Waseem’s swift and safe recovery.
