BLA Claims Responsibility for Attacks on Pakistani Forces in Kalat and Kech

QUETTA: The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for two separate attacks on Pakistani security forces in Balochistan, resulting in multiple casualties.

In an official statement, the BLA said that on Monday at 3:00 PM, its Majeed Brigade conducted a successful special mission targeting the vehicle of the 61 Wing Commander of the Frontier Corps (FC) in Kalat city.

According to the statement, a ‘Watan Nadrig’ (self-sacrificing fighter for the motherland) from the brigade carried out the attack while the vehicle was traveling from the FC headquarters to the Officers’ Mess. The BLA claimed that the Wing Commander and nine FC personnel were the intended targets.

The Pakistani military and media sources confirmed the attack on the FC Wing Commandant in Kalat. They reported the death of one soldier and the injuring of four others in the Kalat attack.

The group emphasized that this was neither its first nor its last such attack, stating that the Majeed Brigade had previously carried out a similar operation in December 2011. In that attack, BLA fighter Darvesh Baloch targeted a Death Squad base on Arbab Karam Khan Road in Quetta.

The BLA said that its fighters have the capability to strike “the occupying forces” at a time and place of their choosing.

This latest attack marks the second major assault by the BLA on Pakistani security forces in recent weeks.

On February 1, the group targeted a military base and a vehicle carrying Pakistani forces in the Mongachar area of Balochistan killing at least 25 soldiers. The BLA has vowed to continue its operations, against Pakistan’s occupation and exploitation of Balochistan’s natural resources.

Additionally, the BLA addressed the Baloch youth, urging them to exercise patience, stating that special missions require long-term ideological commitment rather than short-term emotional reactions. The group emphasised that its fighters undergo years of preparation before being entrusted with such operations.

Following the Kalat attack, Pakistani forces reportedly launched a series of offensives in the area, targeting local populations.

According to Baloch human rights groups, at least 35 Baloch individuals were arrested in Kalat, with reports suggesting they were innocent civilians.

Pakistani security forces have a documented history of carrying out collective punishment in response to attacks on their personnel, often leading to mass arrests and military operations against local communities.

In a separate attack, the BLA also took responsibility for a remote-controlled bomb blast on March 4 in the Kalatuk area of Kech.

The explosion reportedly targeted a convoy of Pakistani forces, killing four personnel and injuring two others.

The BLA also issued a clarification regarding reports of extortion in Turbat and surrounding areas, denying any involvement in such activities. The group stated that unknown elements were misusing its name.
