Dr Mahrang’s Prison Writing: ‘Speaking Up for Justice Is Not a Crime’
NDP Pays Tribute to Late Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri

SHAAL (QUETTA): On the, the death anniversary of Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, the National Democratic Party (NDP) has paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary Baloch leader, describing him as an icon of the Baloch freedom struggle whose life was defined by resistance, principle and an unshakable commitment to national dignity.
Nawab Marri passed away on June 10, 2014, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire Baloch political consciousness. As the Sardar (chief) of the Marri tribe, he was widely respected across Balochistan, both for his unwavering dedication to the Baloch cause and his intellectual leadership in shaping modern Baloch nationalism.
In a statement released on the occasion, the NDP’s central spokesperson said, “We pay tribute to our great leader, ideological guide, and symbol of national resistance. Nawab Marri became a voice for truth and freedom at a time when speaking the truth was treated as rebellion and demanding rights was seen as a crime. He carried the torch of principle and national honour through the darkest times.”
The statement emphasised that Nawab Marri devoted his entire life to awakening national consciousness, erecting intellectual defences against oppression and teaching Baloch youth the values of resistance, sacrifice and pride. Despite enduring imprisonment, exile and systemic repression, he never bowed to the state or surrendered to opportunism.
“His silence carried the strength to challenge tyranny. His ideological clarity rejected slavery. His imprisonment was the beginning of a new chapter in the story of freedom,” the party added.
The NDP called Nawab Marri a cornerstone of the modern Baloch nationalist movement, crediting him with turning nationalism into a conscious and organised political force. “He shut the doors of power on himself but opened the doors of awareness for Baloch youth,” said the spokesperson. “For him, politics was not a pursuit of authority but a path of sacrifice and integrity. He built a mindset that preferred to break rather than bend.”
Reaffirming its ideological commitment, the NDP said it considers Nawab Marri’s philosophy to be its guiding light, one that stays away from power yet remains close to the truth. “He was not merely a personality, but the foundation of a belief, that those in power are not to be trusted, and justice must be demanded, not begged for.”
The statement concluded by affirming that Nawab Marri’s vision, courage, and resistance live on in the hearts of every conscious Baloch. “His mission continues. His dream is alive. Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri is not just a page in history — he is a question for our future, and the answer lies in our ongoing struggle.”
