Baloch Fuel Carrier Killed by Border Forces in Saravan’s Bamposht Region

DOZZAAP (ZAHEDAN): A young Baloch fuel carrier was shot and killed by Iranian border forces in the Bamposht district of Saravan county, according to the Baloch Activists Campaign.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 13, in the village of Haq Abad. The victim has been identified as Ismail Balochzehi, a 25-year-old resident of Jakan village in the same region.

According to reports, Ismail was returning home when he was targeted by border forces (known locally as Heng Marzi) without any prior warning or order to stop. He was fatally shot and died at the scene.

The ongoing pattern of violence against fuel carriers (soukhtbaran) in Balochistan continues unabated, where many impoverished residents rely on cross-border fuel transport as a means of survival due to widespread unemployment and lack of infrastructure.

According to the campaign’s 2024 annual report, at least 240 were killed and 135 injured last year due to direct military fire or road accidents involving security forces, a 54.67% increase compared to 2023.

The incident has sparked renewed calls from human rights organisations for an end to the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians.
