Two Baloch Men Tortured to Death in Custody by Pakistani Forces in Balochistan

SHAAL (QUETTA): A Baloch civilian from Mashkay, a tehsil in Balochistan’s Awaran district, has reportedly been tortured to death while in the custody of Pakistani security forces, according to local sources and human rights advocates.

The victim, identified as Karim Jan son of Azeem, had been missing since February 22, 2024, when he was detained by the military after being summoned to a camp in Mashkay. His whereabouts remained unknown for nearly five months. His body was handed over to his family this past Saturday, local sources confirmed.

According to people close to the deceased, Karim Jan had previously been detained in 2023, during which he was subjected to eight months of torture before being released. However, he was never released following this year’s detention and now he has been extra judicially killed.

Another recent case has drawn similar concern. Azmat Rind, son of Ameer Bakhsh Rind and a resident of Dera Murad Jamali, was forcibly disappeared on June 5, 2025, in broad daylight near Sabzi Mandi, Naseerabad.

On July 9, his family was informed by Pakistani military personnel that Azmat had succumbed to injuries sustained in custody.

Azmat was subjected to severe torture and killed while held in illegal detention. In what human rights groups have condemned as a further violation of human dignity, his body was secretly buried by the military in a remote area of Chatar, Naseerabad, effectively denying his family the right to a proper religious and cultural burial.

Azmat’s case is emblematic of an increasingly disturbing pattern in Balochistan, where victims of enforced disappearance are later found dead in custody, often bearing visible signs of torture. Human rights organisations say such incidents reflect a growing culture of impunity and systemic abuse by state forces.

In another earlier incident, on June 10, a Baloch civilian named Nawab son of Noor Bakhsh, was detained during a raid in Rodkan, Kolwah, and later died in military custody after being transferred to Jirk Camp.

Human rights groups have condemned the ongoing pattern of abuses and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan, calling it part of a larger campaign of repression against the Baloch people. They have urged the international bodies to initiate impartial and transparent investigations into these alleged human rights violations.
