An Insult to Justice: Dr Sabiha Slams Continued Detention of BYC Leaders

SHAAL (QUETTA):  Dr. Sabiha Baloch, central leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has denounced the prolonged detention of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other committee members, calling it a blatant act of political vengeance and a grave violation of human rights.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Sabiha Baloch said that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her fellow activists have been held in custody for over six months without any legal due process or access to a fair trial. “Their only crime is that they have peacefully raised their voices against enforced disappearances and state violence in Balochistan,” she stated.

Dr. Sabiha criticised “arbitrary and illegal arrests,” declaring them not only a breach of basic justice but also a direct violation of Pakistan’s international human rights obligations. She cited both the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, treaties to which Pakistan is a signatory.

She also raised alarm over court proceedings being held inside prison facilities, arguing that such practices strip the judicial process of its transparency, impartiality, and dignity. “This reveals a concerning trend: the justice system is being used as a tool of fear and pressure,” she added.

Highlighting the symbolic importance of the detained activists, Dr. Sabiha said, “Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her companions represent the courageous voice of a nation demanding truth and accountability. Their continued imprisonment is not just a legal injustice, it reflects the moral collapse of the state.”

The BYC leader appealed to the international community to break its silence on the situation in Balochistan. She urged global human rights bodies to speak out against state repression of peaceful political activists and called for the immediate release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and all other detained Baloch workers.
