Balochistan: 20 Bodies Buried in Dasht as ‘Unclaimed’

SHAAL (QUETTA): Authorities in Quetta have buried twenty bodies that had kept in the Civil Hospital Quetta for several days, officially declaring them unclaimed.

The burial took place at the Dasht Teramil cemetery under the supervision of the Chipa Foundation, with representatives from relevant institutions and Chipa volunteers present.

According to sources, four of the twenty bodies had been brought from Mangochar, reportedly recovered during recent security operations. These four were identified as Gul Khan alias Yaseen, Inayatullah, Izzatullah, and Shay Murad.

On Thursday, Azad Baloch, spokesperson for the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), issued a statement confirming that four were BLA fighters had been killed in combat against a state-sponsored criminal gang in the Gorki area of Mangochar, Balochistan.

Even though the identities of the four BLA fighters were known, the state has chosen to bury them as ‘unclaimed’ instead of handing over their bodies to their families. in an attempt to erase evidence and deny them dignity in death.

The remaining sixteen bodies buried have not yet been identified. Sources suggest they may also be linked to recent aggressions, though no official confirmation has been provided.

The controversial nature of security operations in Balochistan has once again come under scrutiny. Human rights organisations and Baloch nationalist groups have consistently raised alarms over a pattern of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and fake encounters, often targeting civilians or political dissidents.

In contrast, Pakistani security forces and government officials have maintained that those killed in such operations are armed militants or terrorists, including individuals allegedly involved in recent attacks, such as the one on the Quetta Frontier Corps (FC) Headquarters.
