Balochistan: BSO Marks 58 Years of Struggle for National Freedom
SHAAL, BALOCHISTAN: The Baloch Students Organization (BSO), a key institution in the Baloch national movement, has completed 58 years of its existence, marking nearly six decades of dedication to the cause of Baloch freedom. In a statement issued by the central spokesperson of BSO, the organisation’s vital role in strengthening the Baloch national struggle was underscored, highlighting its ideological foundations, the sacrifices made by its members and its continued resistance against oppressive forces.
The spokesperson emphasised that BSO is not merely an academic or student body, but a national institution that has played a pivotal role in shaping the Baloch national movement. According to the statement, BSO has not only reinforced the Baloch national struggle on an ideological level but has also fostered institutional thinking, providing political awareness and mobilizing the youth to join the cause for national freedom.
“BSO has established the journey of Baloch national freedom based on knowledge and intellect, providing Baloch society with a new intellectual framework. This intellectual awakening has helped the Baloch nation connect ideologically and continue its struggle for national formation,” said the spokesperson. They further elaborated that the organisation has promoted values of freedom, peace, ethics and moral integrity, nurturing a generation of Baloch youth committed to these ideals.
Since its founding on November 26, 1967, the Baloch Students Organisation has faced significant challenges, both internal and external. Over the decades, various self-interested elements have attempted to manipulate the organisation for political gains, attempting to steer it towards parliamentary politics. However, the spokesperson highlighted that a decisive turning point came after the year 2000, when the Baloch youth made a historic decision to free the organisation from these external influences.
“This decision not only liberated the BSO from the grip of opportunistic forces but also realigned the organisation with its true national purpose, further energising the movement for Baloch national freedom,” the spokesperson stated. They added that this shift strengthened the BSO’s position on both political and ideological fronts, solidifying its role in the Baloch national struggle.
The BSO has faced immense sacrifices in its struggle. The statement poignantly recalled the martyrdom and enforced disappearances of several prominent leaders and activists, who have paid the ultimate price for their commitment to the cause. Notable martyrs such as Lama-e-Watan Bank Karima, Raza Jahangir, Shafi Jan, Kambar Chakar and Comrade Qayum were specifically mentioned. These individuals, the spokesperson noted, “shed their blood in defence of this national institution but never betrayed its great ideology.”
The spokesperson also paid tribute to the abducted leadership of the organisation, including BSO’s central chairman Zahid Kurd Baloch and central information secretary Shabbir Baloch. Both are currently in illegal custody and enduring torture at the hands of the Pakistani state but remain resolute in their commitment to the struggle for Baloch freedom. “They continue to uphold the resistance philosophy, defying oppression with their unwavering ideological stance,” the spokesperson added.
The BSO’s slogan, “The pen is our voice, the book is our guide and the freedom of Balochistan is our goal,” was highlighted as more than just a slogan, but a guiding philosophical principle that underpins the organisation’s efforts. The spokesperson stressed that this philosophy continues to inform the organisation’s actions and its vision for a free and independent Balochistan.
The organisation has consistently worked to spread its message of national freedom to every corner of Balochistan, reaching every home, village and city. Through educational efforts, BSO has awakened the intellectual consciousness of Baloch society, nurturing a generation that is committed to the struggle for freedom. “From children to youth, we have imparted national lessons that have connected Baloch society with the cause of freedom,” the spokesperson said.
As BSO marks 58 years of its existence, the spokesperson called on the youth of Balochistan to remain committed to the organisation’s philosophy and national struggle. “It is the national responsibility of Baloch youth to understand the significance of this great national institution and remain ideologically connected to its cause,” they urged.
The spokesperson said that the ultimate goal of BSO is the establishment of a peaceful, dignified society based on social values, an objective that can only be achieved when an independent Balochistan is realized. “This vision is only possible when the sun of an independent Balochistan rises over Baloch soil,” they concluded.
The Baloch Students Organisation’s legacy is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Baloch people in their ongoing struggle for national dignity and freedom. With its focus on education, intellectual empowerment and resistance against oppression, BSO continues to inspire a new generation of Baloch youth to carry forward the cause of an independent and just Balochistan.
