Teen Killed in Police Firing, Family Demands Justice

SHAAL, BALOCHISTAN: An 18-year-old youth, Muhammad Khalid, also known as Khalid Sasoli, was shot dead in a police firing incident in the Sariab area of Quetta on April 10, 2026, shortly after donating blood at a local hospital, according to family members and local accounts.

Khalid son of Ameer Muhammad and a labourer from Nushki district in Balochistan, had travelled to Quetta with two friends to sell their motorbike and purchase furniture. During their visit, they also donated blood at a hospital to help save a woman’s life, an act his family described as humanitarian.

According to eyewitnesses and relatives, the group was returning later that evening near Sariab Road when they were followed by personnel of the Eagle Squad of the police. Without warning, gunfire was opened. Khalid’s two friends were thrown off the motorcycle, while he was separated, beaten and reportedly shot at close range.

Initial reports from local sources indicate that instead of being immediately taken for medical treatment, Khalid was moved to an undisclosed location where further violence was inflicted. He was later brought to Civil Hospital Quetta in critical condition. Hospital officials confirmed he remained under treatment for several hours but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as gunfire erupted in the area during routine evening traffic and police patrols. Residents fled for safety, while bystanders rushed to assist the injured youth, who was later identified as Khalid.

Khalid’s father expressed profound grief, stating that his son had gone to save a life but lost his own. The family has also said that they were not informed of his condition until the following day. Due to a lockdown in Nushki, they were unable to reach Quetta immediately. Upon arrival, they claim they faced harassment and were initially denied access to his body, which was only handed over after persistent efforts.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway; however, no detailed official statement has yet been issued regarding the circumstances of the shooting or the allegations of mistreatment.

The incident has intensified concerns over law enforcement practices in Balochistan. Rights groups and local observers point to what they describe as a pattern of excessive use of force and mistreatment of victims and their families in Balochistan.

The killing comes just weeks after another controversial case in Quetta, where a young man died due to custodial torture, sparking public outrage.
