Balochistan: BLA Says Two “Suspicious Individuals” Released After Interrogation

SHAAL, BALOCHISTAN: The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed that its defence and security forces briefly detained and interrogated two individuals during a checkpoint operation on the Kharan–Karachi highway.

In a statement issued on May 17, 2026, the group said that its armed members conducted an “organisational mission” on May 12 near Killi Sarawan, where they blocked the highway connecting Kharan and Karachi and took control of traffic in the area. According to the statement released to the media spokesperson, Azad Baloch, the BLA members carried out snap checking and vehicle searches at the checkpoint.

During the operation, the group said its members stopped a vehicle with tinted windows and emblems associated with Pakistani security forces. Two unarmed non-local individuals were inside the vehicle.

The BLA stated that both individuals were taken into custody for preliminary questioning after they were deemed “suspicious.” The group said that the scope of the investigation was later expanded, making it necessary to keep the two individuals in detention temporarily.

According to the statement, the BLA’s investigators later completed their inquiry and released both men along with their vehicle. The organisation said that, “as a responsible organisation,” it does not intend to harass people without reason.

In the statement, the BLA also distinguished itself from Pakistani security forces, accusing the Pakistani military of harming civilians indiscriminately in Balochistan while adding that the BLA prioritises the protection of civilians and their property.

The group further appealed to residents across Balochistan to continue informing its members about “suspicious activities” linked to “occupying enemy forces” in their respective areas.
