Balochistan: Mother and child die due to lack of lady doctor in Dera Bugti

QUETTA: A mother and her infant died during giving birth because of the absence of lady doctors in Dera Bugti on Tuesday.

According to reports, a woman and her child died during delivery due to the absence of female doctors at Civil Hospital in Dera Bugti.

Since there are no Gynae doctors in Dera Bugti, pregnant women are often taken two hundred miles away to Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad in Punjab province of Pakistan.

Many women give birth on the way and several mothers and their children have died during delivery due to pregnancy complications.

Balochistan has the highest maternal and child mortality rate because of the lack of maternity homes and expert doctors.

Most districts of Balochistan including Dera Bugti are also deprived of basic facilities including schools, hospitals and clean drinking water.
