Balochistan: Prominent Baloch Tribal Leader Released After Three-Day Detention
DOZZAAP (ZAHEDAN): Haji Hameed Gamshadzaei, a prominent tribal leader from Iranian-Occupied Balochistan, has been released after spending three days in detention. His arrest sparked widespread protests and reactions from various Baloch tribes, with many citizens expressing their support for him both in person and online.
Haji Hameed was detained after being summoned to Branch 6 of the Revolutionary Court in Zahedan. He had been arrested on January 29, 2025, following his attendance at the funeral of his nephew Abdul Jalil Gamshadzaei, who had been killed by Iranian military forces.
In addition to his participation in the funeral, military and security forces had previously threatened him with restrictions on his activities, including being barred from meeting with Molana Abdulhamid, attending Friday prayers at the Makki Mosque in Zahedan, and participating in the memorial service for Bukhari in the city.
His detention caused significant unrest across Balochistan. Protests erupted in several areas, with citizens blocking roads and burning tyres in response to his arrest. Social media platforms were flooded with messages of support, and many individuals expressed their solidarity with the detained leader.
Haji Hameed was held at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) 114 base in Zahedan during his detention.
However, following mounting public pressure and widespread calls for his release, the tribal leader was freed on February 1, 2025. His release was met with cheers and celebrations from Baloch citizens, who had been vocal in their calls for justice and his immediate return.
