The Silence of a Nation: Baluchistan Under Iranian Occupation
Family of Disappeared Student Demands Immediate Action for His Recovery

SHAAL (QUETTA): The family of 16-year-old student Naeem Bashir, who was forcibly disappeared from Turbat’s New Bahman area over three months ago, held a press conference at the Turbat Press Club on Tuesday, expressing deep concern over the lack of progress in his recovery.
Speaking to journalists, Naeem’s mother and sister appealed to the Kech district administration and the Government of Balochistan for urgent and concrete steps to ensure his safe return. Naeem, a 12th-grade student, was abducted from his home on February 5, 2025. According to his family, he is a peaceful, education-focused youth currently missing his crucial annual examinations, putting his academic future at serious risk.
“He is our only son,” said his mother, holding back tears. “His absence has left our entire family in deep distress. For us, Eid was no longer Eid.”
The family explained that shortly after the disappearance, local authorities had assured them that Naeem would be recovered within a few days. However, over three months have passed with no updates. Despite peaceful protests during Ramadan, including on Eid, their pleas remain unanswered.
Naeem’s father, an elected local councillor, also addressed the press, urging state institutions to act decisively. “We are peaceful citizens and have full faith in the law. But we should not be forced to protest in the streets. All we want is justice and the safe return of our son.”
The family has appealed to the Balochistan government, district officials, local MPAs, and all relevant institutions to take immediate and effective measures to trace Naeem Bashir and ensure his safe return home.
“We are only asking for justice,” said his sister. “And for us, that means Naeem coming back safe and sound.”
The case has raised fresh concerns over the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, a long-standing human rights issue that continues to draw criticism from international observers.
