Beebagr Baloch’s Health Critically Deteriorates in Custody

SHAAL (QUETTA): The Baloch Yekjehti Committee has issued a grave warning about the rapidly deteriorating health of its central leader, Beebagr Baloch, who has been in state custody for over six months.

According to a detailed statement released by the organisation, Beebagr, who suffers from permanent physical disability, is being denied essential medical care in prison ,  a situation now described as life-threatening.

Beebagr Baloch, who requires continuous physiotherapy and specialised medical supervision, has not been provided with basic healthcare or rehabilitation services since his detention. The committee reports that due to prolonged medical neglect, he is now suffering from severe muscle atrophy.

His legs have turned blue, indicating a serious lack of blood circulation and oxygen, symptoms that place him at high risk of developing Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). If left untreated, this condition could lead to a pulmonary embolism, a sudden and potentially fatal medical emergency.

The situation is further complicated by repeated catheterisations, which have caused a dangerous infection. This has led to a urethral stricture, blocking his urinary system entirely. Medical experts warn that this can result in kidney failure, septicaemia (blood poisoning), and eventual multi-organ failure if not urgently addressed through surgical intervention.

Doctors who examined Beebagr Baloch in jail just days ago recommended immediate surgery. In response, the Baloch Yekjehti Committee’s legal team filed a request in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to have him transferred to a hospital. However, the court has repeatedly refused, and for the past two months, Beebagr has been kept on police remand without any medical examination.

The committee revealed that no medical evaluation was conducted during his detention at the Cantt Police Station or while he was held by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), further exacerbating his condition.

BYC describes the current situation not just as neglect but as a deliberate act of cruelty, warning that continued incarceration under such conditions amounts to a slow death sentence.

“We urge international human rights organisations to intervene immediately and pressure the Pakistani state to transfer Beebagr Baloch to a fully equipped hospital for urgent treatment,” the committee stated. “If any harm comes to Beebagr, responsibility will rest squarely on the shoulders of the provincial government, police administration, and state intelligence agencies.”

The case has intensified growing concerns over the treatment of political detainees and enforced disappearances in Balochistan, where rights groups have repeatedly called for accountability and transparency. As Beebagr Baloch’s condition worsens, advocates fear that without urgent action, another preventable tragedy could unfold in silence.
