162 Baloch citizens killed and 93 injured in first five months of 2026, rights group reports
DOZZAAP, ZAHEDAN: A total of at least 162 Baloch citizens were killed and 93 others injured across Iranian-occupied Balochistan and other Baloch-populated areas between 1 January and 31 May 2026, according to figures compiled by the Balochistan Human Rights Documentation Network.
The organisation said its findings were based on verified local and independent sources, noting that the real toll could be higher than documented.
According to the report, 16 individuals were executed in Iranian prisons during the period. A further 41 people were killed and seven were injured in incidents involving Iranian military gunfire or landmine explosions.
The data also shows that 68 people were killed and 22 were injured in shootings carried out by armed individuals, representing a significant portion of the recorded casualties.
Separately, 17 fuel carriers from the Baloch community were killed and five were injured in shootings or during pursuit-related incidents involving security forces. The report also recorded at least three women killed in cases of domestic violence.
One prisoner reportedly died following torture, while five others were killed and 21 were injured during unrest in Chabahar prison amid protests over food conditions.
The report further states that 11 Baloch citizens were killed and 38 were injured during airstrikes attributed to the United States and Israel during a 12-day conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
In a separate incident, government sources were cited as saying that at least 168 students and teachers from Baloch communities were killed in an airstrike on a school in Minab County. This figure was not included in the report’s main total.
The documentation network emphasised that its figures only include cases that could be independently verified, and that the actual number of casualties may be higher.
