BSC Says Its Female Member Forcibly Disappeared From Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Baloch Students Council (BSC) Islamabad has alleged that one of its members, Rubina Baloch, was subjected to enforced disappearance in the Pakistani capital on 2 July, amid what the organisation describes as an escalating campaign of raids, intimidation, and harassment targeting Baloch students.
According to a statement issued by the council, Rubina Baloch is a fourth-semester BS Mass Communication student at the International Islamic University Islamabad and an active member of the Baloch Students Council. The organisation said she has been missing since 2 July and called for her immediate and safe recovery.
The council further claimed that over the past week, security authorities have conducted multiple raids on the residences of Baloch students in Islamabad, creating a climate of fear and insecurity within the student community. The statement further added that these actions have subjected students to harassment and intimidation, raising serious concerns about their safety and the protection of their fundamental rights.
Condemning the disappearance, the Baloch Students Council said the targeting of students and the use of enforced disappearances constitute serious human rights concerns. The organisation urged national and international human rights bodies, the legal community, political parties, civil society organisations and student unions to speak out against enforced disappearances and to support the protection of human rights, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms.
The council warned that continued silence over such incidents risks fostering impunity and placing more individuals at risk. It called on the relevant authorities to disclose Rubina Baloch’s whereabouts, ensure her safe return and uphold the constitutional and legal rights of all students.
