Protest Rally in Quetta Demands Justice for Zaheer Ahmad Baloch

Quetta: A protest rally took place in Quetta on Wednesday denouncing the continued disappearance of Zaheer Ahmad.

Participants from various schools of thought, including families of missing persons, joined the demonstration led by Dr. Mahrang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Solidarity Committee.

Protesters brandished banners and placards, filling the city streets with chants against enforced disappearances. They demanded immediate action regarding Zaheer Ahmad’s case, urging that an FIR be filed against those responsible for his disappearance and that he be presented in court.

“Our demand at this time is for justice for Zaheer Ahmad, who the CTD abducted. We insist on his immediate production in court,” demanded the demonstrators.

They vowed to continue their sit-in and protests until Zaheer Ahmad was safely returned, warning that their demonstrations would escalate in intensity if their demands were unmet.

The protest began with a sit-in on Saryab Road by Zaheer Ahmad’s family, who spent the night there after failed negotiations with district authorities.

Zaheer Ahmad reportedly forcibly disappeared from Quetta on June 27, 2024, prompting his family to initiate public appeals and demonstrations for his recovery.

The issue of forced disappearances has become a critical concern in Balochistan, with protesters alleging ongoing harassment by security agencies even during peaceful demonstrations.

They highlighted a pervasive pattern of disappearances affecting Baloch individuals daily.

Zaheer Ahmad’s family held a press conference in Quetta to draw attention to his case and appeal for his immediate release.
