Baloch Activist Highlights Balochistan’s Issue at London Conference

LONDON: Baloch human rights and political activist Aomar Karim brought attention to the ongoing issues in Balochistan during his participation in the “Solidarity with Ukraine” and Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in London.

In his address, Aomar Karim outlined the campaign’s objective: to inform UK lawmakers and activists about the critical situation in Balochistan and to urge them to advocate for the cessation of human rights abuses by Pakistan.

He emphasised the need for these influential figures to amplify their voices on Balochistan’s plight and to pressure the Pakistani government to address the human rights violations occurring in the region.

During the conference, Aomar Karim distributed pamphlets detailing various issues, including human rights abuses in Balochistan, the problem of missing persons, and the extrajudicial killings of disappeared individuals. The pamphlets also highlighted the crackdown on peaceful protests by the Baloch Yakjehti and Pakistan’s ongoing occupation of Balochistan.

Karim stressed the importance of unity of different Baloch political parties in the UK to ensure a unified message about Balochistan reaches the international community adding that “the world will not listen until we present a unified front. It is crucial to make the world aware that we are united so they can engage with us about Baloch issues.”

The conference, currently the largest gathering of the Workers Party Union in the UK, includes participation from MPs, the UK Prime Minister, senior officials from various Workers Parties, and human rights activists.

During his visit, Aomar Karim met with several human rights organizations and UK MPs, who committed to organising forthcoming meetings and programs focused on Balochistan’s issues.

Notable figures such as Nadia Whittome and John McDonnell are expected to be involved in these initiatives.

Aomar Karim concluded by urging Baloch parties and human rights advocates to participate in such programs and to continue raising awareness about Balochistan on the global stage.
