BLA takes Responsibility for Grenade Attacks in Kharan
QUETTA: The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for grenade attacks in Kharan city on the evening of December 13.
According to a statement released by the group’s spokesperson, Azad Baloch, two consecutive hand grenade explosions targeted an under-construction Treasury Office located near the Post Office in Kharan.
The BLA stated that the attack was aimed at the armed operatives of Latif, a military collaborator. The statement further explained that Latif has contracted mercenaries to protect himself from pro-freedom groups, which the BLA considers a direct provocation.
“We have carried out this attack on Latif’s mercenaries, and we want to make it clear that they will continue to face BLA’s resistance,” Azad Baloch said in the statement. “Latif, his brother, and their associates should be avoided by the public, as they are deeply involved in betraying the Baloch cause.”
The BLA also emphasised that its attacks on “national traitors and paid collaborators” will continue, specifically targeting individuals and groups working with security forces in Balochistan.
The group has previously conducted similar attacks throughout the region, as part of its ongoing campaign for an independent Balochistan.
Balochistan has long been a hotspot for insurgent activities, with various pro-freedom armed groups, including the BLA, calling for independence from Pakistan.
The Pakistani government has responded with military aggressions to curb insurgency, which has led to grave human rights violations including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and collectively punished unarmed civilian populations.
