Balochistan: Iran’s Military Forces and Housing Foundation Demolish Homes in Chabahar

DOZZAAP (ZAHEDAN): On February 3, 2025, Iranian military forces accompanied by agents from the Housing Foundation conducted raids in the Kumb and Moradabad villages in the Chabahar district in Balochistan resulting in the destruction of residential homes belonging to Baloch citizens.

According to reports from the Baloch Activists Campaign, the demolition operation began early on Sunday morning in the village of Kumb, located on the outskirts of Chabahar. The authorities reportedly arrived without providing any judicial order or prior notice and proceeded to demolish the home of a local Baloch resident.

Later in the afternoon, the military forces and Housing Foundation agents carried out another raid in Moradabad, demolishing homes and courtyard walls in the village.

These actions come amidst a broader controversial attempt by the Iranian government to carry out the “Development of the Makran shores” project. This plan critics say aims to alter the demographic composition of the region by displacing the Baloch population.

The project has sparked concerns that the government is attempting to forcibly relocate residents in the area, particularly in anticipation of potential plans to relocate the capital to the southern shores of Balochistan.

This recent wave of demolitions is part of a series of ongoing actions against Baloch citizens in the region.

According to the Baloch Activists Campaign’s 2024 annual report, at least 30 instances of home demolitions have been reported throughout Balochistan, with Baloch citizens also experiencing the destruction of their religious institutions.

In separate incidents, military forces have reportedly destroyed three Sunni schools and mosques, further raising alarm about the treatment of the region’s ethnic and religious groups.

International human rights organisations and local Baloch activists have raised concerns about the long-term impact of the destruction of homes on the lives of Baloch citizens and the potential erosion of their ancestral lands in the face of these governmental actions.
