Balochistan: Baloch Youth Arrest Attacker After Killing of Defender in Shiraz

DOZZAAP, BALOCHISTAN: A Baloch citizen, identified as Iman Ismaelzaei, apprehended the suspected killer of Matin Mohammad-Hassani, a 19-year-old who died while defending a young woman from harassment at the historic Arg (Citadel) of Karim Khan in Shiraz. Ismaelzaei arrested the fleeing assailant and handed him over to the Iranian military forces, according to the Baloch Activists Campaign.

The incident occurred on the evening of December 9, 2025, when Mohammad-Hassani intervened to stop a man armed with a knife who was harassing a girl at the citadel. The attacker stabbed Mohammad-Hassani in the neck. Due to the lack of timely medical assistance, he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial reports from the Baloch Activists Campaign stated that the suspect had been caught by Baloch bystanders, though the identity of the individual who performed the arrest was not known at the time. It has since been confirmed that Iman Ismaelzaei was responsible for restraining the suspect until authorities arrived.

Following the news, people across Balochistan and Baloch youth on social media paid tribute to both Mohammad-Hassani whom they referred to as a Nameeran (martyr) and Ismaelzaei for their courage. Supporters praised their actions as reflections of the Baloch code of honour, emphasizing that defending the defenceless is a longstanding and respected element of Baloch culture.
