Baloch Doctors Forum Demands Immediate Recovery of Dr Rashid
SHAAL, BALOCHISTAN: The enforced disappearance of senior urologist Dr. Rashid Ali in Quetta has sparked serious concern and anxiety within the medical community, prompting strong reactions from doctors’ organisations and human rights advocates.
According to a press release issued by the Baloch Doctors Forum (BDF), Dr. Rashid Ali, a well-known and experienced urologist, was summoned, through a phone call, by state institutions on the night of December 9 at approximately 11:00 PM. When he arrived at the designated location in Quetta, he was forcibly disappeared and transferred to an undisclosed location. He has remained missing since then.
Dr. Rashid Ali’s family, particularly his brother, has expressed deep distress over the situation. Four days have passed, yet the family has not been informed about his whereabouts or condition. Authorities have neither officially acknowledged his arrest nor provided any clarification regarding where he is being held.
The Baloch Doctors Forum stated that the continued silence and uncertainty have caused severe mental anguish to Dr. Rashid Ali’s family and have created widespread unease among medical professionals across Balochistan. “Dr. Rashid Ali is a dedicated physician who has served the people of Balochistan for many years,” the statement said, adding that his disappearance has deeply shaken the medical fraternity.
The forum has issued a clear and firm demand for the immediate and safe recovery of Dr. Rashid Ali, warning that failure to do so may result in a strong response from the doctors’ community. It emphasised that the disappearance of a physician without due legal process constitutes a blatant violation of fundamental human rights and the rule of law.
The Baloch Doctors Forum has also appealed to human rights organisations, journalists, civil society groups and relevant state institutions to take urgent notice of the case and play an effective role in ensuring Dr. Rashid Ali’s immediate recovery.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the authorities regarding Dr. Rashid Ali’s disappearance.
