BYC Rejects Forced Displacement Orders in Shorparod, Terms it Continuation of Oppressive Policies
SHAAL (QUETTA): The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), also known as the Baloch Solidarity Committee, has strongly opposed orders directing residents of Shorparod to vacate the area, describing the threatened displacement of thousands of Baloch families as a violation of their fundamental rights.
In a statement, the committee said forcing residents to abandon their ancestral homeland was not merely a matter of losing their homes and land, but an oppressive measure that threatened their economic independence, cultural identity, historical ties and collective way of life.
The committee said orders to vacate homes, accompanied by threats of force in the event of non-compliance, had created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty for affected families. It added that the consequences of displacement would extend beyond homelessness, disrupting livelihoods, education, social relationships and cultural traditions passed down through generations.
According to the statement, removing the people of Shorparod from their ancestral land would undermine their fundamental rights to live safely in their homes, maintain their connection to their land and make decisions about their own future.
The committee characterised the threatened displacement as collective punishment against the Baloch population and accused the state of using coercive measures to maintain control over the territory.
The BYC also criticised the government’s reported promises to provide temporary camps, food and medicines to those affected by the proposed displacement. It argued that temporary shelters could not replace ancestral homes and that humanitarian assistance could not compensate for the loss of land.
“Forcing people from their homeland and then providing them with temporary shelter cannot serve as a substitute for protecting their fundamental rights,” the statement said.
The committee categorically rejected the orders directing residents to leave Shorparod and called for their immediate withdrawal. It also demanded guarantees for the protection of the local population and respect for residents’ right to live freely, safely and with dignity in their homes and ancestral territories.
The BYC further added that it would not accept any attempt to undermine the collective existence, identity and future of the Baloch people through their displacement from their homeland.
“The land of the Baloch nation is not an empty territory where decisions can be imposed while disregarding the wishes, history and rights of the people who inhabit it,” the statement said.
The committee further emphasised that the Baloch people’s connection to their land was inseparable from their history, identity and collective life, adding that threats, coercion and the use of force could not compel a nation to abandon its ancestral homeland.
