Dead body of MQM (London) leader found in Karachi
KARACHI: The dead body of Muttahida Qaumi Movement London (MQM-L) Deputy Convener professor Hassan Zafar Arif has been found in Karachi, the capital of Sindh on Sunday.
The Ibharim Haidari police station in Malir has confirmed that the dead body was found near Ilyas Goth in an abandoned car.
The dead body of the MQM-L leader has been shifted to Jinnah Hospital Karachi for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
The director of Jinnah Hospital Dr Seemi Jamali said that there was no sign of torture or bullet wounds on the dead body, however, the real cause of the death will be ascertained after a thorough examination.
Hassan Zafar Arif, aged 75, was a professor of philosophy and had taught in a number of universities around the country. He was also a former fellow at Harvard University.
After a controversial speech of MQM founder Mr Altaf Hussain, the party was split into two fractions (MQM-Pakistan and MQM-London). Professor Hassan had joined the MQM London which is still headed by Altaf Hussain.
After he joined MQM-L, Mr Hassan was arrested by Sindh Rangers and imprisoned for several months.
He was later released in April 2017 after a court issued his release order but he went missing yesterday (13 January 2018) and on Sunday his dead body was found.
